Phyllosphere Microbiome Profiling of Spearmint (Mentha spicata)

Aratrika Chakrabarti

Spearmint (Mentha spicata) is a medicinal plant whose leaf surfaces host diverse microbial communities. This exploratory study surveyed culturable microbes present on spearmint leaves using long-read genomic DNA sequencing. Sequenced data showed six families with >1% abundance, with the genus Enterobacter as the most abundant taxa at 15.78%. This approach helps profile the mint phyllosphere communities and provide preliminary insights into the microbial taxa associated with each species.
