Identifying Subtypes of Type VI Secretion Systems in Vibrio fischeri

Peyton Moore

The type VI secretion system is a contact-dependent molecular mechanism harbored by some bacterial isolates. Select cells of Vibrio fischeri utilize T6 to kill competitors and engage in symbiosis with Euprymna scolopes. The goal of this project was to develop a screen for type VI character. This screen could then be expanded to study type VI positive strain interactions and develop subcategories type VI. Studying this mechanism expands knowledge of bacterial interactions within a host.
