As the risk of antibiotic resistance becomes an increasing threat to public health, it has become imperative that research is conducted in order to develop new novel antibiotics. One promising potential target of such an antibiotic is the σE pathway, a stress response pathway widely conserved across Gram-negative bacteria. Using a parent compound referred to as KKL-2170, analogues were developed and tested for activity against E. coli, with current and future research addressing target identification.
