In today's info session, Dr. Head will offer you insights on how to put on the reviewer’s lens, how to use the GRFP Merit Review Criteria as your guide, and how to click-in using the pillars of Initiative, Leadership, Impact, and Scholarship to produce a benchmark GRFP application. He will cover the goals and selection criteria of the GRFP, the key application sections, how to get knock-your-socks-off letters of reference, how to use prewriting as a tactic, and how to craft your GRFP statements.
Presenter Bio:
Dr. William Head was a founding faculty member of California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and is a professor emeritus in the School of Natural Sciences at CSUMB. Dr. Head also founded and directed CSUMB’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center, which provides research experiences and graduate school preparation for CSUMB students across all disciplines. Prior to coming to CSUMB, Dr. Head directed the Caribbean Marine Research Center in the Bahamas. He received his Bachelor of Science in Ecology from UC Santa Barbara, his Master’s in Marine Science from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, and his Ph.D. in Oceanography and Fisheries from Oregon State University. He lives in Santa Cruz and enjoys all things Santa Cruz including beach volleyball, mountain biking, and surfing.
