Taylor Slusser
I argue that the interpretive method of the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews (New Testament) can be understood by viewing the Scriptures he comments on as principally a divine work. Accordingly, he views the content of the Old Testament as pre-existent and metaphysically prior to creation, thus mitigating the role of historical concerns in his interpretive method. Moreover, the pattern of “figural reading” he exhibits is paralleled by other Jewish and Christian authors.
