Investigation of The Biodegradation of Lipopolysaccharides by Bacillus spp

Shiwei Dong

Endotoxins (LPS) from gram-negative bacteria is one of the most toxic pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). High amount of endotoxins within the blood can induce sepsis and septic shock, causing organ failures and death. A potential approach for a cure includes finding bacterial species that are capable of endotoxin degradation. Past studies have suggested Bacillus species of being able to degrade endotoxins. Panels of endotoxin degradation activities by Bacillus spp. using modern approach will be shown.
