Mane Khachatryan

I'm a 3rd year Biology major at Penn State Harrisburg. I previously completed an Multi-Campus Research Experience for Undergraduates (MC-REU) project on the In-Vitro Direct Organogenesis of Industrial Hemp. I'm currently conducting research on REDD1 protein in skeletal muscle and the heart in the context of diabetes. I hope to pursue an MD/PhD in cardiology.

Current Research Project:
Role of REDD1 Protein in Diabetes-Induced Myopathies and Cardiomyopathy
Project Description:
We are looking to identify the role of caloric restriction in mitigating the effects of diet-induced obesity on expression levels of REDD1 protein in cardiovascular tissue and how this reflects on overall cardiac function. We also research the role of REDD1 expression in muscle atrophy as well as in insulin metabolism and diabetes.
