I am a 3rd year Millennium Scholar majoring in biology with a focus on neuroscience and minoring in biomedical engineering at University Park. I am a part of Dr. Yingwei Mao’s neurobiology lab, in which we focus on better understanding how neurogenesis and the proliferation and differentiation of abnormal cell types lead to neurological disorders and mental illnesses. My project focuses on understanding the relationship between Zinc Finger Protein (Znf) and the emergence of neurological disorders. My end goal is to obtain an MD/PhD in neurosurgery/neuroscience. I can assist in narrowing down research interests, identifying labs that fit such interests, and on how to appropriately reach out to potential PIs and mentors. I also have had the fortunate opportunity to participate in Summer Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) programs and am more than happy to assist with identifying potential REUs of interest and with the application process.
