Active sitting has gained increasing prevalence in recent years as a means of increasing psychological performance. The present study evaluated physiological measures of body movements that occur across active and passive sitting conditions as well as performance on cognitive tasks, such as verbal, spatial, and motor tasks. Contrary to popular belief, findings indicate that active sitting provided no benefit on verbal and motor tasks, and may lead to performance decrements on spatial tasks.
