A Comparison of Macroinvertebrate Communities Among Vernal Pools with Varying Fire Histories

by Richard Austin Novak
The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential impact of prescribed fire on vernal pool macroinvertebrate communities. We sampled for macroinvertebrates as well as various environmental characteristics in vernal pools with varying fire histories. We found that although the habitats may differ slightly, prescribed fire does not appear to cause significant shifts in macroinvertebrate communities. This information may be useful to land managers.
