Computer Generating and Studying Objects Involving Randomness to Assist or Temporarily Replace Rigorous Analysis

by Zhiyu Zhao
Percolation theory is related to the behavior of connected positions in systems, and can be applied into many fields including materials science, statistics, and electric conductivity. Engineers intentionally dope semiconductors with impurity material to change the semiconductors' band gap and thus change the properties of the semiconductors. Introducing impurities to semiconductor periodically can produce different properties from introducing impurities randomly. Mathematical modeling can provide information on potential properties, or patterns of distributions of those defects.
