Determination of the genetic background of Rhesus Macaques

Alison Claire Barrett

The genetic origin of rhesus macaques, which are important model organisms in medical and biological research, is often not well documented, despite being of high importance in various scientific questions. In this project, we sequenced mitochondrial DNA of rhesus macaques of unknown origin and analyzed a region containing variable sites between Indian and Chinese macaques. This allowed us to determine the genetic background of these monkeys.
