Determining the Interactions between V. fischeri strains with Type VI secretion in vitro.

Austin Wittmer

Some bacteria possess a type VI secretion system (T6SS), a weapon that enables a bacterium to kill surrounding cells.  This study investigates the extent to which Vibrio fischeri strains with a T6SS eliminate other nearby strains that also have a T6SS. Based on the data, multiple strains of V. fischeri with T6SS can co-exist within the same space; however, it is inconclusive if said strains can kill one another.
