Understanding the Influence of Motivational Readiness on the Relationship between Desired Body Image and Physical Activity in African American Adults

Hannah Tripp Jones
The purpose of this study was to explore the mediating role of motivational readiness on the relationship between desired body image and moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in African American adults. We found that as desired body image decreased, motivational readiness for exercise and MVPA increased. Results suggest the importance of increasing awareness of risks associated with obesity in an effort to reduce preferences for a higher body shape and size among African American adults.
