Women's Legislative Representation in Africa

Jennifer A Heckman

What explains variation in the level of women’s legislative representation in Africa? This paper expands on previous studies to examine the interaction between demand-side and supply-side factors in the analyses. In this paper, I rectify these limitations in the existing literature by examining how institutional, economic, cultural, and international factors influence the supply of, and demand for, women’s representation in Africa by using a new dataset.
