Detection of Neutrinos with CRES

Jacob Miller

Neutrinos were first detected ~60 years ago, and yet remain one of nature’s most elusive particles, with their fundamental properties still not quite resolved, and their mass still unknown.  The Project 8 experiment seeks to determine the absolute neutrino mass via the precise measurement of the electron energy in beta decays, using a novel technique called Cyclotron Radiation Emission Spectroscopy (CRES), which allows single electron detection through the measurement of radiation emitted by magnetically-trapped electrons.
