Effect of Hybrid Post-Sinter Treatment on Sinter Hardened (SH) Structural Parts from PM Steels

Andrew Serafini

Copper Infiltration (CI) with sinter hardened parts is utilized to ensure sufficient mechanical properties. However, CI usage results in cost increase and dimensional inconsistency. This study regards using an inorganic sealant (IS) by vacuum impregnation in place of, or along with, CI. The results show the effect on different mechanical properties and how this process can increase or match the use of just CI along with being a more cost effective method.
