The Impact of Social Support and Adverse Childhood Experience on Alcohol Use and Psychological Distress in College Students

Amanda Moore

This study examined the relationship between adverse childhood events (ACEs) and social support on drinking behaviors and psychological distress in undergraduate students. From prior research (Strine, 2012) we predicted that ACEs would be related to higher levels of drinking and psychological distress, while social support would find the opposite. A preliminary multiple regression analysis suggests a significant negative relationship between social support and psychological distress F(2, 16) = 4.86, p = .024, R2 = .38.
