Investigating the Role of the MTHFD Gene Family in Archaea

by Arthi Bala
The MTHFD gene family is the donor of one-carbon units for nucleotide metabolism throughout life. To better understand the evolution of this gene family, we complement our Eukaryotic MTHFD studies by investigating their sister lineage, the Archaea. Here, we investigate the evolution of the MTHFD gene family throughout Archaea using phylogenetic and molecular evolutionary techniques. We suggest that while most Archaea have retained MTHFD gene family members, others have seemingly lost them.
