Antibacterial Properties of Fractions Derived from Crude Soil Extract

Pabitra Roy
Due to the death toll impact resulting from antibiotic-resistant bacteria, novel classes of antibiotics must be identified and developed. Naturally occurring microbes in soil may act as a source of such antibiotics. In this study, 6 fractions purified from crude soil extract were tested for the ability to inhibit translation and the σE pathway. Our results indicate that 4 fractions inhibit translation and all fractions inhibit the σE pathway in Gram-negative bacteria
