Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem. The trans-translation pathway is a new drug target for the discovery of novel antibacterial drugs. A growth inhibitory screen was conducted with natural products extracted from marine plant life in Hawaii. Identified hits were found to inhibit growth of pathogens, including Klebsiella pneumoniae and MRSA USA300, as well as target the trans-translation pathway. Hits will be characterized in order to determine the mechanism of action.
