Associations between activity patterns during the dry period and calving events in dairy cattle.

Mikel Shabloski
This study assessed associations between activity patterns during the 14 days prepartum and calving events in dairy cattle. Cows (n=136) that were between 20 and 30 days from expected calving date were fitted with a HOBO® accelerometer on the rear right leg. Cows that experienced a severe assisted calving spent more time lying down during the 14 days prior to calving compared to cows that experience either normal or mild assisted calvings.
