Osgood-Schlatter Disease as a Model for Studying Structure-Function Relationships in the Knee Joint Extensor Mechanism

Anthony Mannarino

A computer model of the knee was developed in MATLAB and used to better understand the impact of Osgood-Schlatter Disease on knee mechanics. This analysis revealed that as both patellar ligament and tibial tubercle length increase, quadriceps moment arm increases as well. In other words, the effect of O-S on the leverage of the quadriceps muscle is compounded by patella alta.
